Those who can gather together for dinner at 6:30 p.m. before the Bible study on Wednesday nights. Now that the choir has started, a suggestion was made that maybe we could “potluck” together.
Would you all be interested in this or would you like to keep our potlucks just with the young adults?

So the fall is coming which means an opportunity to talk about what you would like to study…
- Continue with the lectionary that follows the text that will be preached on the coming Sunday.
- Mixing current events with faith.
- A book study of a specific book in the bible.
- A book (fiction or otherwise) to deepen our conversations about faith
- AN AWESOME IDEA ALL YOUR OWN
Post the ideas that you have…

Ahh, we’ve come so far: Jesus telling confusing parables, feeding five thousand, walking on water, calling a woman a not so nice name…and now a deeper understanding about the foundation of the church and Jesus. This week’s reading is Matthew 16: 13-20. Here’s a link going right to the text: http://bible.oremus.org/?ql=86071766
The schedule this week:
6.30 pm for dinner together (bring something to share)
7-8.30 pm Bible study
August 18, 2008
This week’s study will be a little different.
Come at 7 pm to eat dinner together and study the New Testament reading for this week. Bring something to share with the group (post what you are bringing so that we know what the spread will be like!).
The reading is Matthew 15: 10-28. If you don’t have a chance to read it ahead of time, no worries! Come and enjoy some great food and discussion.

Looking back at the readings for yesterday left me with more questions to think about:
- Sibling rivalry…those of us that have siblings may be able to connect with this (or even if you had a really close friend or relative that was almost like a brother or sister). How do you deal with the potential envy that comes with being close to someone? Are bad thoughts okay as long as we don’t act on them?
- What about the article from Newsweek (www.newsweek.com/id/147790)? This article talks about two teenagers stuck in the middle of numerous challenges in their lives. Where could their communities have played a part in preventing what occured? What can we learn from this article?
Re-imagining the story about jesus walking on water and Peter’s challenge to do the same may bring up some thoughts about our own faith journeys. What could this text be saying to us? What might some of these implications be?
